I looked down at my chest to make sure I could still see the rhythmic breathing movements coming from it. There were only a few crystals leftover from the last 8-ball but I hadn’t freebased since I first met Nanuk. I closed my eyes and started to feel a warmth building in the center of my chest, expanding my ribcage. At the point where it felt like the warmth would burst through my skin, it began to dissipate and shift to the base on the back of my neck. The heat started to rise into my skull as I noticed a low faint murmur gradually getting louder and louder. It was as if the sound were coming from within me, expanding, until it would eventually break through from the inside out. Right at the point I could no longer take it, I attempted to stand up and open my eyes.

Instantly I found myself in a strange wilderness with clouds of dust swirling up from the ground as I moved my feet. I was in the middle of a thin dirt path flanked by tall grasses. There were hints of a tree line beyond the grass and even further ahead of me, a long pillar of smoke. I began walking down the path towards the smoke when an intense flash of light blinded me. I tried to shake off the dizziness and continue walking when it flashed again. Each step brought with it another blinding flash and suddenly the earth began to shake…
